Haryana cabinet clears policy for development around transit mode areas

Chandigarh: The Haryana cabinet on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to a policy that is expected to pave the way for the proposal of the town and country planning (TCP) department to amend land category around the proposed metro rail routes in the state.

The Haryana cabinet has cleared the latest draft of its
transit-oriented development (TOD) policy. According to the amendment, in case any individual applies for a license in an institutional area in the TOD zone, he would have to transfer to the government an equal area of land in a residential zone.

The government would utilize that land to set up institutions like colleges, hospitals, fire stations, power stations and police stations. The amendment will help in effective implementation policy for innovative financing of
mass rapid transit system (MRTS) projects. The amended policy will become applicable with immediate effect.
